had panic attacks for 15 years but they went and then came back with a vengeance.i had to leave my job nof 39 years.but i put them down to the thyroid too.was hyper now hypo i had the radioactive iodine done.its like having a terrible thing inside you and you want to cut it out.hate it when people say pull yourself together.i got a taxi to a and e one morning at 6am.i thought i was dying.no body knows what it is like unless you experience it.i am frightened to go out sometimes.good luck dear
I posted on the main forum about dreadful palpitations I have been having this week since my op'. Thanks for being so honest about you attacks, no wonder your husband is so proud of you. When you get the panic attacks does your heart rate go wild? Does the breathing help with that too? Does anyone know what this shaky, bubbling sensation around the heart is? I am really having a problem dealing with it last night and today and almost took myself off to the doc this evening again as it was so bad! Settled down at the moment but I'm dreading going to bed.

I'll learn more this week hopefully on the leveled out issue!
Oh, you are just like me then! Looks like I've got it whichever then doesn't it?! Until I level out like you hopefully. Thanks for answering.
Both cause for me! I gotlabs done today and waiting to see where I fall. My anxiety hasnt been bad lately. So maybe I am leveled!! Right after surgery I was hypo!! Before surgery... hyper!!
Do you mind my asking which thyroid problem causes your anxiety. Are you hypo or hyperthyroid? Coz I'm swinging between the two at the mo and wondering which of them causes it the most?
Believe me, I have come along way!! I am still learning and dealing, but getting along alot better than before. I know that this thyroid thing has got us wanting to jump out of our skin at times and I can honestly say its the worst feeling or symptom by far!!!!!!
I just or try to tune out of it when it is happening and really do my breathing exercises. I started to go into one last week when we were celebrating my hubby bday party and just walked into another room, closed the door and light and started to breathe, really breathe. Breathing from your abdomen!! It subsided about 10 minutes later!! I was so proud of myself. My hubby has watched me go through he// and back and when I did that at the party, he knew what was happening, he actually had tears in his eyes when I came out ok, because he knows now what panic is and to see that I got myself through it, he said was a gift to him watching me pull through it. That very moment I knew what it felt like from his side and watching me go through that.
There were many nights I thought i was dying and no one could help. He would just sit there and try to help but we all know, no one can help us at that very moment. He felt helpless!
I dread them, yes.. but when I feel it coming, I fight back!!! !!!!
Hi, yes I have them a lot! They're hideous aren't they? I'm swinging between hypo and hyper at the moment just gotten diagnosed and have been told you can get them with either. So please don't feel alone because believe me I know exactly how you feel. I think they are the very worst aspect of thyroid disease. And I'm really glad you posted about it, becasue now it has helped me not feel so alone either. Let's keep each other going! Plus it's just really helped me seeing how MKlacza has learnt to control them! How cool is that!
I had anxiety/panic before all this started. My anxiety has actually calmed down quite a bit! All I can say is this.. if you find yourself going into an attack, do not feed into. That will just make it all the worse. I have been dealing with these for years and I finally got a grasp on them.
I know it sounds easier said than done, but breathing, yoga breathing that is, helps me tremendously.
I really am learning how to control this somewhat. I have gone leaps and bounds! I use to run to the ER all the time because I thought I was dying!! I do not take meds either, only if I am in a crisis situation where I feel the need to run, I might pop an Ativan to take the run feeling away.

If you have a lot of anxiety and panik attacks , it's likely not the lack of thyroid which causes it , but rather your adrenals ( lack of cortisol ) which are not in a good shape .

Anxiety is a common symptom, sometimes leading to panic attacks.
It is not uncommon to be on anti-anxiety drugs.
