I have never had a speech problem but lately I find myself studdering. Can this be a symptom?

When I go to talk I know what I want to say but the words just don't come all the way out. It seems to happen when I am excited or talking to fast. I have to stop and make the word/words come out right. I guess just one of my many symptoms

I am with Mags and TM...when hypertyroid my voice would quiver like I was nervous...even when just speaking to a friend.  It was one of the symptoms way before I diagnosed with graves.  It wasn't stuttering as much as alsmot fluttering or something. But close.

I, too, would stutter some when I was hyperthyroid as well.  I don't know why, but it seems like I'd try to get the words out before they were ready (like I was rushing to speak or something) and I would stutter, but ONLY when I was hyperT.  Weird, huh?  I bet is does have something to do with the heart rate like tm514 says.

I didn't stutter specifically, but when I was undiagnosed (hyperthyroid from Graves), I had a terrible time speaking in public - just couldn't calm myself down to speak without a shake in my voice.  Of course, now I understand why - my heart rate was well over 100, not to mention the brain fog and all the other lovely symptoms that come along with thyroid problems.  I had long since stopped being nervous about speaking to a group, and BAM, all of a sudden it came back in a flash.  Not sure that is the same thing, but if you are having other symptoms, I'd encourage you to get it checked out.

Fingers stutter too, eh?  :-)  Are you finding a difficult time "locating" the correct words to use (like "brain fog") or are you physically having a difficult time getting words out???  If it's brain fog that's (unfortunately) very common with thyroid problems.  If it's physically having a hard time getting your mouth to get the words out you need to talk to your doctor and have an MRI run to see if there is something going on neurologically.  That's NOT normal with thyroid problems - brain fog is.
