My daughters doctor used to tell us to do this with her Armour for the same reason. Actually, "WITH breakfast". She has been on Naturethroid for 5 weeks and we try to take it atleast 1/2 hour before meals. It is working great for her and she is feeling better and better with each passing day. We will do blood work on 9/14 and see the dr. for results on 9/20. She is 8 and born without a gland. She took Synthroid for most of her life with many hypo problems. Switched to Armour due to low t3. Did great until we got a refill of the "new formula". Now on Naturethroid and dealing with trying to find it. I've got a 60 day supply in cabinet and trying to find one more refill to hold her for three months. Surly supplies will be flowing again by then! I know I can have it compounded, however, we haven't even done labs yet and I don't want to throw in anymore variables as I am trying to get a good picture of how this is working for her. She is on 195 total mg taken ( 1grain 3x per day at 4 hour intervals.) She was on 120 mg of Armour. NT conversion chart seems to be too modest. How long have you been on N.T. and how is it working for you?
for me - it doesn't matter - I do not utilize the gut to absorb my meds. I take mine sublingually. This frees my flexibilty.
Rule - swollowing, - the med has to reach the liver - in it's utmost superior level to convert accordingly. so if you confuse it with food it could deplete the med.
same applies to Synthroid

P.S. I found an extra refill yesterday! Yipee!
I have always been on Naturethroid - never on Armour - but I find that I feel better with a little synthetic added to it. So I am on 1 gn. Naturethroid plus 50 mcg Unithroid. Peggy
That is what our compounding pharmacist suggested we should do if we can't get her free t4 where it needs to be on Naturethroid alone. However, her labs had been perfect on Armour alone, until we refilled and got into the "new formulation." Then her t4 was suddenly low normal instead of mid to high normal, and her free t3 had dropped also, but not quite as much. This was all on the same dose, just a new bottle! Joint aches suddenly began, and she has never had this! So since seeing is believing, I switched her to Naturethroid on 8/6. We've struggled with the dose as the Naturethroid conversion chart seems too modest. 1 grain of Armour = 60mg is suppose to equal 1 grain of Naturethroid 65 mg. She had been on 120 mg of Armour and she is now on 195 mg Naturethroid, and I wouldn't be surprised if labs show that she is still under. I'm trying to hold her here (3 grains) until labs as she is doing fairly well (symptomatically) on this dose. Labs are on 9/14 and we'll see her doctor on 9/20.
