Does your son show symptoms? I keep an eye on my daughter, who is six. So far, no constipation, fatigue or leg/foot pain, so I'm not worried yet. She has a great colon and more energy than the Energizer Bunny.
7 out of 8 Hashis are women, but men do get it.
My dad had it and my two male cousins when they were in their teens.
My aunt, mom, grandma and two female cousins have it.
It is hereditary. If you catch it soon enough, you can, hopefully, get him treatment when the antibodies are low. Selenium once a day has been clinically proven to cut antibodies 1/4 over six months. Also, treatment with thyroid hormone in the onset of the disease has been clinically proven to reduce antibodies.

I think I will ask our doctor to test him I think he may but we will see.
I have read that it is hereditary but never seen any details as to why. Maybe some autoimmune disease are more likely to 'flourish' in some genes. My mother had it, so do I. Hereditary or coincidence?
I would suggest you pay attention to symptoms and maybe get your son tested for antibodies if you can find a doctor willing to do pre testing. Many Hoshis youth years would have been better had they known (well, had their parents known) what these symptoms were caused from.
Thyroid antibodies can be present before Hoshi symptoms, so If your doctor diagnoses using lab test only - that doesn't tell the whole picture.
