Lyrica help anyone?

I've had constant ATN for 8 years and have had no relief. I want to try Lrica since it seemed to work briefly (a doctor's sample for a week) but then the cost was crazy--about $100 a month!
Anywone have any luck with surgery? I've tried every pain reliever, anti-convulsant, etc...out there andnothing works.

It's very depressing and of course, impossible to work.....Any ideas?

Dear Carol,
Isn't this great? We have a trans-Atlantic friendship! I love it! I'm around the same age as you and have two "children"--Emily is 26 (yikes! I must be really old!!!) and lives in Portland, Oregon, a beautiful little city that is very liberal and socially active. I live in Tucson, Arizona, the SouthWest where it's all desert and cactus and today will be like summer--almost 80 degrees (fahrenheit)......Ben is 24 and just moved to Los Angeles...so it's just the two of us now, and Maggie, our pound-rescue basic brown dog.

We recently moved from New York--my husband worked as an editor for the New York Times and I'm a freelance writer. When my ATN was at its worst (in the cold winter and other triggers) I could barely get out of bed. The pain was so intense. But this Lyrica seems to be helping quite alot (fingers crossed) and it is allowing me to feel more "normal" which is hard, since I'm a "hippie" in my soul.

I can't elieve you have grandchildren and you're so young!!!! You must have married when you were 10...lol....

Coincidentally, my father (divorced from my mother when I was 4) was born in Liverpool! Isn't that funny? So I feel a real connection even though I never visited. I was in London, though........

You have so much to wear you out physically and yet your cheerful note has brightened my day (9 in the morning here). I hope you find a good balance with your meds and the like. Also, please feel free to "complain" or just let your feelings out about the pain, I totally understand.

Have you tried any exercising, maybe a class or something? I go to a class a few times a week, and it's one of my few "social activities" because who has patience for doing things when you are in pain? Anyway, I look forward to a better year ahead for all of us and am deliriously happy about Obama...he's so inspiring....read the book about his father "Dreams From My Father" I think it's called.

Wow! I rattled on, didn't I? BTW, I like to read all the London papers online! Some of them are so outrageously funny...
Be well Carol and I look forward to your next post!

hi again,
thanks so much for responding again. what part of the uk do you live in? this country's healthcare system is so damaged and we are so hopeful that with Obama coming in (hooray!!!!!) the whole industry will be scrutinized. It is so corrupt and just kills the middle class with their expensive drugs, etc.....i am so sorry you have both versions of this horrific condition. i haven't met many people who even UNDERSTAND this condition, let alone also suffer with it.

let's also keep in touch in general--is your name carol? we can be trans-atlantic friends with this dread thing in common, but tell me about yourself and i will ditto.....thanks again for writing, naomi

hello naomi, no what you mean about the tramadol ha ha, well in answer to the tn and atn i have both ..i started with the atn first and then after a trip to the hospital dentist i got tn, this was becouse they damaged/exposed my mental nerve! , wich is a offshoot of the trigeminal nerve,   but becouse as you will probably no you have three pressure points to the trigeminal nerve and iff none of the points is compressed you will not require surgery !!! daft init,, having atn is very hard to treat .tn is much easier becouse the surgeons can see what they are looking for ,both hurt like hell and the atn is almost a constant pain where as you can get lull in pain with tn . and your meds prices are shocking!!!!!!!!! i pay 28 pounds(about 24 dollers i think) for a ppc (prescription certificate) wich lasts for 3 months and get anything i need and want with it .***** for you doesn,t it i would jump out the window to , talk soon take care

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me! I just started Lyrica 3 days ago--they won't release the generic! Of course, that would only cost $4, so why would a poor little pharmaceutical company allow pain relief for suffering people for so little when they can keep the generic on hold and get $100 a bucks for a month's supply???!?!

I'm on 50 mg 3x daily, and I have felt immense relief so far.. Fingers crossed. I think I tried tramadol in the past to no avail...this is the only thing that has helped me not want to jump out of a window! Of course, we live in a 1-story house, so that wuldn't accomplish much....

Do you also have ATN or TN? I haven't found too many people with ATN, which of course, doesn't respond to surgery (which I don't want, trust me!)....

hello naomi, i have been on lyrica or pregabaline as i call it,, and it does help a lot with atn,try a higher dose (over 500mg a day) and that will ease it a bit, you could also try asking your docter for a trial of topirimate to go with the lyrica, that will help also but the topirimate might make you a bit scatty!!! it did with me so i had a change to the pain patches(buprenorphine transdermal patch) they are ok, but don,t suit everyone ..and wow! it costs an awfull lot of money for meds over there ,good luck in finding some form of pain felief.failing that ask for some tramadol to go with your pregabline tc carol
