9 year old son

My son is 9 and he got dizzy today so I checked his blood sugar, (I have a glucometer from when i was pregnant with my youngest one) I did the test for the control it was 94 and my sons was 164 I waited until 2 hours of no food drink at least (closer to 2 1/2) and checked it again and it's 168.  I'm worried about this.  I am going to check it again in a few minutes when it's been an hour after dinner but what should it be 1 hour after eating?  and how bad is this?

Hello,

It is true that diabetes is an important cause of dizziness. The readings that you have given are definitely high for a 9 year old child. But measuring blood glucose with a glucometer can give false readings also.Best would be to get a blood sugar level;fasting(after overnight) as well as post prandial checked from a lab.The most confirmatory test is however Hb A1c blood tests.Pls get it done after consulting a pediatrician.

If diabetes is ruled out then other causes of dizziness in children like lack of proper sleep or taking stress, anemia, infections, endocrine disorders like thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary gland disorders, electrolyte imbalance, dehydration, inner ear diseases and refractory changes in eye have to be probed.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your son is doing.Kind regards.

I took his levels again an hour after dinner and it was 163 or 164 (I saved it in the glucometer to show the pediatrician).  I'm really very worried about him and am not sure what to think.
