Dizziness while sleeping

Im having these episode, as Im drifting off to sleep I feel like my brain is still on. As if my eyes and brain are spinning! My body is tired, but my brain wants to stay up. Which in return gives me these weird sensations as im trying to doze off. Its so scary, I feel as if part of me is pulling me in to sleep, but the other part is fighting it and then I feel dizzy, My heart races, body gets a weak numb feeling likes its so tired, a little nauseated and dazed and sometimes I even get mild hotflashes(im 31). All these symptoms happen as awake. Mind you, when Im awake, these episodes never happen. Only thing that stays is the dizziness that comes and goes. Some moments I feel as if im going to fall over, I get so lighthead and dizzy. I cant stand to be around to much motion or move my head or body a certain way. And sometime car rides just make it worse. But the whole sleep thing episodes are my main concern. My blood workup was fine, Im only iron defiencient anemic. Ekg, chest xray, ct scan of head, abdominal xray....were all normal. Has anyone else experienced any of this? Please share

Oh Wow!! Happy to hear you got it all checked out!
Good thing you started taking an iron supplement...I think I need to really start taking supplements. In the winter it is so hard to get enough nutrients in diet alone...at least in CO it is lol...
Hormones are sooooo stupid...they always seem to be the reason for anything that goes wrong!

Anyway, thanks for the update, and I'm happy for the happy news. Good luck and godspeed!

hey, well i havent had any more episodes,(knock on wood and thank God!!) My dizziness went away. i went to a new doc on nov 1, they said it was a combo of stress, iron defiency and vertigo. But what I did notice is , my anxiety and panic attacks, with lightheadness get alot worse around my period and as it ends. Im doing so much better now, i have even joined the gym! This new doc gave me more blood work and this time tested my ferritin levels, my ferritin level is 15 as of nov 3. the lab range is 8 - 300....meaning mine is on the low side, and was lower earlier this year because i just start taking iron. I allso did an echocardiogram for my heart, all was normal. I feel sooo much better!! To think of it when i wrote this post it was October 18, and i got my period October 24....MMMmmm, this could have been agititated by my PMS. After my period went off, it got better. Im hoping this is the reason....all i can do is keep praying. But im soooo glad my vertigo is gone!!!! It might be a hormone imbalance as well

Yeah, I'm curious to know what your MRI shows. Please keep me posted because I'm anxious to know what all this may be. Sorry you have to deal with that...no fun!

Thanks for replying..You were so right about it getting worse in the pitch black. Last night when i was dozing off, my room was dark (i usually sleep with my tv on)  but its horrible in the dark. I already feel like im spinning, then when you open your eyes the dark room makes you strain your eyes to see. Ugh.... i cant wait to ge my MRI. The times i have them, I can feel it coming on before bedtime.

I have totally experienced these episodes ever since I was little (I'm 26), yet they do not happen to me often.  When they do happen though, it freaks me out. I've noticed mine happen when I am just dozing off, but not yet asleep. The dizziness intensifies if the room is pitch black!

Everything spins and I know that I myself am rocking as I cannot sit still when head feels like it's spinning. Whenever this happens, I am ALWAYS nauseous and still dizzy the following day. Never got it checked out, but I believe it has to do with an iron deficiency, as you mentioned. Try eating protein before bedtime so your body doesn't feel so empty and prone to nauseate. Some people have a more sensitive equilibrium than others, which is annoying.

One more thing, there are great homeopathic dissolvable tablets for motion sickness, and one particular kind always helps me during car rides or plane flights. It's called "CarboVeg" and I know that sounds horrible (lol) but really they help. Dissove 5-6 of the tiny tablets under your tongue whenever you feel symptoms.
Anyway, I hope this helps!
