How to lose some weight

I am only slightly over weight and wish to lose about 15 lb.  I have been limiting my calory intake to around 1500 per day instead of 2000 which is recommended for me.  I have also been excercising around 4 - 5 times per week but I am not losing weight.  Please can I get some advice on how to lose weight.

If you're down that far on calories, give it time the weight will gradually come off. I believe it takes so many calorie for so long to gain a pound. It also means dropping a large amount of calories to lose a pound. Stay with it you will see results.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
What you need to do is eliminate the common causes of increase in weight such as overeating, lack of exercise, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Anemia, low proteins, adrenal gland problems, kidney and liver problems and Cushing Syndrome has to be eliminated. Late night snacking and poor sleep patterns too cause weight gain. Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary (in females) too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen.
If the above causes are eliminated then you can join a weight trainer and a nutrition expert and follow their advice and lose weight under their guidance.
Take up yoga, deep breathing exercise, walking and remain strong and determined in your effort to do away with this habit. Music and aerobics are also good stress busters. Also the diet should contain more of green leafy vegetables, fruits and protein and less of spaghetti, potato etc. Take care!

Limiting calories does not always work, it is what you are eating. No more white breads my friend, try whole wheat products as well as products low in sodium, sugars, fat and trans-fats (thats a big one!) its not as bad as it sounds, i live a life, free of a large amount of those things, am at a happy weight and love the food i eat. and stop with diet drinks! they are horrible, sure no sugar and no calories but the aspartame in it is horrible! that chamical, in order to taste sweet and have no sugar, burns your tastebuds. literally burns them and it leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. if you get thirsty, skip the crystal light and all the other fab diet crud. drink water, lots and lots of water. if you want something with taste treat yourself to a glass of real, preferably unsweetened orangejuice. but too much juice is not good, fruits have a lot of natural sugars. here is my step to step guide to help
1- buy foods high in fibre for the next little while to flush the junk food out of your plumbing
2- when you go grocery shopping pay attention to the ingredients, if salt sugar, fat or any unpronouncable word ending in "ose" (those are all chemical sugars) like glucose or fructose is near the beginning of the list (all ingredients go from most to least ammount) it means it is high in those things and is rather unhealthy.
3- stick to whole wheat and drinks lots of water, if you want juice get juice but not too much. BE WARNED - beverages titled "orange drink" or "or fruit drink" means its not real juice. be aware and stay away from things titles with drink.
4- try to make sure what you eat has little to no trans fats. those are needless fatty acids that your body just stores away.

oh! and dont forget, eat according to schedule the best you can, have a steady breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. if you eat all over the place your body gets confused and does not have a regular digestive pattern. and no late night eating. 8'oclock and your done. if you eat less than 2 hours before you go to sleep, you body does not have the chance to burn off what you are and whatever is left in your tummy before you go to bed gets stored as sugar and fat. sorry for such a long answer, hope it all works out for you. diets never work. just eat healthy and regularly. and nobody says you cant have a treat now and then :)
