Knees burn when moving them

I am a 41 yr old female. I am fairly active and on my feet a lot. I have recently started to experience excrutiating pain in my knees. In the evenings when I'm winding down, I have a tendency to fall asleep in a sitting position on the couch while watching television (knees bent or stretched out straight). I have been woken up by a horrible burning sensation in both of my knees. When I go to move or get up I can't bend or straighten my knees. I have a high tolerance for pain but the pain I experience makes me want to cry. After fighting through it and moving around for a few minutes the pain subsides and I feel fine. What could be causing this?

Thank you so much for your reply. I am on my feet a lot during the day. I've had bad/painful knees for many years. I was told at one time it was because I am wearing down the cartlidge in both knees. I don't know of any knee problems in my family history, but I only know of one side (mother's). I should take vitamins but am really bad about doing so. This problem has recently started and seems to be getting worse.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am like you and do not like any type of fish or fish oil! I'll look around and see what I can find. Hopefully it will help. When you experienced this did you have this problem when sleeping in bed? I've never experienced this in bed, only when sitting on the couch.

the pain might be caused because you are so active on ur feet do u tend to stand up and be leaned against something for a long period of time? does your family history show that you have bad knees or anything?do you even take vitamins seeming that you are so active?

I had the exact same issue, my doctor said it was air pockets in my joints, he has me take omega3 (fish oil) supplements & coQ10, it is working!! for months now..if you are like me & dont like the fish oil there are many alternatives just shop around online herbal store like Nature's Way, look for the highest content of omega 3 per serving..DO NOT get anything with omega6 or 9, those cause problems, omega 3 only!
