Light headed, fatigue, unexplainable

I'm a 24 year old male, non-smoker, ~73 kg, lean, usually healthy, good diet, exercise regularly, get a good amount of sleep (7-8 hrs), don't lead a stressful life, no medication. ~6 months ago I began suffering from an itching, irritating, increasingly painful (getting VERY painful and itchy) sensation on the left side of my back, coming round my shoulder to my chest - deep bruising pain as well as a surface skin irritation pain feeling. No rash at all. This cleared up after about 2 weeks. With this came serious fatigue and light headedness, feeling like floating. Drinking so much water, eating loads. This lasted for about 2-3 months, during which I couldn't work or do anything physical. It got better once, only to come back again. I pushed for a blood test, results came back all fine or better than normal with only one hint - epstein barr virus positive - I was told this could just mean I've had that before in my life (as I heard is pretty much the case for most adults). No explanation.
So I recovered, lived about 2 months of normal health feeling great again until suddenly, one day I began feeling very light headed. Not an unpleasant feeling, but I felt drained of energy, had to sleep all the time, needed loads of food and drink. I had a blood test - again nothing at all wrong. Doctor told me to go away and 'plod on'... I can't really work like this, I'm doing a PhD in neuroscience, I have to handle pretty toxic stuff sometimes, which could get dangerous. Short term memory is a little affected as well I believe. The harder the day the worse my symptoms are. I know this isn't the worst that can happen to someone, but it's not right at all. I'm young, fit and healthy, there MUST be something wrong. Anyone got any ideas at all? I'd be grateful to hear anyone's opinions! Thanks.

Ask for a Lyme/Borrelia test.  That spacey fatigued feeling is very typical for the disease. Babesia, another tick borne disease, can also cause that feeling, along with shortness of breath and dull headaches.  You can check this out for a good overview and symptom list.

It can be immunosuppressive, so doctors are finding that many Lyme patients have high virus loads and frequent colds.  EBV is one of the most common that they find.

Good luck!

Can't remember exactly, but the doctors said both were really good. In fact they said all the test results were fine if not better than normal. Thanks for your reply.
