Mid-Abdominal and Back Pain

I'm a 28 year old female, having constant sharp pain in mid-abdomen radiating straight back to the back. Noticed pain increased or "attacked" shortly after eating. Currently have nausea-no vomiting. I don't feel anything during palpitation on exam.
Was hospitalized for 3 days, NPO for 2 1/2 days while in hospital. Tests so far have been trans-vaginal ultrasound, abdominal CT with barium and iv contrast and abdominal ultrasound-all have been normal. Routine labs drawn and all WNL.
History: abdominal surgeries include appendectomy and exploratory lap.
Diagnosed with endometriosis after exploratory lap. in Sept and currently on Lupron-Depot shot therapy and did respond to treatment.
Currently at home on pain and antinausea meds. My GYN doctor and I both agree that this pain is different then what I had experienced with the endo. I really thought it was gallbladder.
I'm very frustrated and don't know where to go from here.

Any advise or suggestion will be very welcome.
Bridget

Well have had multiple doctor appointments since last post. We still don't know what this is. The lump turned into an infected hair follicle, unrelated to the pain I have.

My family doctor is stumped. Referred to Internal Medicine doctor-saw her today and she also seems stumped as to what it is.

Will be doing a Capsule Endoscopy here in next few days. After this I don't know what is going to happen.

I'm still a puzzle box!

Small lump showed up where my pain is and has been on my abdomen. It is tender to touch. I have doctor appointment today, thankfully!!! I am almost thinking its a hernia-will see. Don't know if this is the underlining cause of everything or something that's kicking me while I'm down.

Have a look into Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction......it's all very closely linked with your gallbladder/liver/pancreas and all the ducts and the way you say it reacts after you've eaten and where the pain is located is very typical off gallbladder/sphincter of oddi.

I hope you find some answers soon....living in pain is no fun (I know I'm doing it too....)

Update...
Meckel's Scan normal.
We are trying the med Amitiza to see if will help. If by this Friday my symptoms are the same, my doctor is going to send me to specialists either at the Med Center in Omaha or consider Mayo Clinic.

Ok so I had a HIDA scan this morning and it came back normal with my EF of 89%, so no gallbladder. We are going to do a Meckel's scan on Monday looking for Meckel's diverticulum. Beyond that, I don't know where we are gonna go.
Still out of work. Taking Narcs for pain control and nausea-I can't work on narcs, the pain meds are controlling pain ok but still breaksthrough.

Guess we will see what happens from here.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
In all probability the pain is due to endometriosis or adhesions in the abdomen. Another exploratory laparotomy is required for this. Also it may be a pinched nerve at the back.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!

Hello gidge,

I have a feeling this may not be a gyn related problem.... It does sound like there is a possibilty of a stomach ulcer forming.

Your symptoms of abdo pain, which worsened after eating and feelings of nausea definitely relate to stomach ulcer.

Stomach ulcers usually occur through regular high levels of acidity in the stomach  which damage the mucosal lining of the stomach wall. The acidity can be a caused by a bacterium called helicobacter pylori... which can be tested for very easily, it can also be caused by long term use of NSAID medications.

In stomach ulcers usually drinking a glass of milk or taking ant acids ease the pain. Please see your GP or a doctor who is GI and is not in gyn to get this checked as soon as you can, if left untreated stomach ulcers can begin to bleed which can cause blood in the stools and vomiting also commonly leading to anaemia, there is also risk of perforation from stomach ulcers.

Please get this checked asap, so that it can be treated correctly or to be ruled out if this is not the case. Your symptoms do suggest this though.

Hope this is helpful, Dee.
