Pain in my right side under rib cage

Have u any idea what it might be. The pain is constant, can cause more discomfort when I move around. The pain doesn't move I can pin point it to the same place - just below & right of the sternum
I've had it for months. It doesn't appear to get worse if I exercise or rest.
The pain is niggling & worrying. Sometimes it gets more intense & I think I should go to the Doctor & then it eases off.
It doesn't keep me awake at night, but if I turn over it reminds me it is still there.
I am quite fit & don't think I have any other symptoms.

Hi:
If I understand you correctly, this pain seems to be just under the right-sided ribcage?
For over a year I had similar pain and then finally it progressed to uncomfortableness in bed while lying down, to extreme freezing in bed upon awakening and unable to move for about an hour, then nauseousness. By the time nearly a year-and-a -half went by, the final progression was vomiting green yucky stuff over and over again many times on one particular day. Unable to get off the floor.....
The next day my gallbladder was out.
Now, remember, this began with a simple come-and-go pain under my right ribcage.
I wonderif this could possibly be what is troubling you?
I am fit, watch fats, sugars, calories, etc., however, I do recall eating something I made with actual, real cooking oil rather than PAM spray. The GB was unable to handle the fat load I gave it all of a sudden.....attack. This occurred one other time earlier on in the pain-developing cycle only the attack was not severe as the final one was!
In between these two attacks, the rib pain came and went and the freezes did, too. I just thought it was hormones until within several more months the pain turned into difficulty breathing (painful) and severe green vomiting........
Perhaps you should have a HIDA scan (it detects GB anomalies) and it is what diagnosed me.
Best wishes.
Oh, when the doc mentioned several possibile diagnoses, one of them was cholecystitis which is GB disease..........check it out.

Your best option is to have your gyno refer you to a general surgeon and tell him you are sick of being in pain and see if he can just go in and explore and see what he finds. I know your pain girl.

I had the same pain for three years and the doctors couldnt find out what was causing it. I ended up having surgery on valentine's day this year and have been pain free since.

He found adhesions attached to my liver and the adhesions are scar tissue and the pain you are describing sounds just like the pain I was having.

The only way to dianose it is by surgery. :(

Good luck

Thanyou for the reply. I think I need to see the GP. I don't have a cough & it doesn't hurt if I cough. I am quite fit & don't think I have injured myself at all - no pain when I touch my abdomen or around that area.
The ache comes and goes.
I have always suffered with back ache & have skeletal abnormalities. It doesn't feel related, but what do I know.
My underlying fear is that it might be cancer & my mum died of cancer. We did not know for definate where the primary was, but it could have been her stomach.
i will go to my GP - thankyou

Hi,

Has a chest xray or ultrasound abdomen been done for your complaints?

Do you have any symptoms of reflux, heartburn, GERD etc? Is there any history of trauma or injury to the site? Did you have cough in the recent past? Does the pain increase on coughing etc?

There could be several causes for your complaints - you should consult your doctor to rule out abdominal causes like GERD, gastritis, cholecystitis, etc.

Repiratory causes could be rib fracture, pneumonia, etc.

It could also be due to a muscle pull or sprain.

Let us know if pain relief medications help and whether you have tried taking antinausea antireflux medication. Try some warm compresses and local application of pain relief gel medications.

Let s know about how you are doing and what your doctor advises.

Regards.
