Spots on Nails

I have white spots on my toenails that don't cause any problems other than the appearance issues.   I have had nail polish on them for several weeks, that has been changed.  I removed the polish because I could see the spots through the polish.  What could they be?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The white spots could be due to reaction of the chemical of toe nails. It can be fungal infection. Another cause is zinc deficiency. Generally white spots or leukonychia punctata appear and disappear within 8 weeks and is due to slight injury to the base or matrix of the nail. This is harmless. So you can wait out that period. If the spots do not disappear consult a doctor to rule out fungal infection. You can take zinc supplements if fungal infection is ruled out.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I get white spots in my fingernails. Its from hitting your nail on something. I think its like a "nail bruise". Do you think this could be it?

If they are white spots. I have always been told that is calcium build up in the nail. Not dangerous at all
