Strange "out of body feeling" happening everyday

I'm a male and I'm almost 17 years old. I've been experiencing these strange feeling in my head every day from about the beginning of March 2010. I've been describing it to people as an "out of body" feeling. It occurs in different quantities every day and with different potencies. When I have one, they last between less than a second and 3 seconds. When they are strong, they make everything feel fake. As if everything I'm seeing isn't real. After having these feelings for a couple of weeks, I would get a draw out "out of body feeling" after watching TV, looking at electronic screens, or focusing on something for a long time. I've been to the doctor (a pediatrician to be exact) and was told that my eardrums were swollen up and didn't move and were stiff and that one of my ears had some liquid in it. I had noticed a small amount of sound delay while in the car listening to the radio prior to this, but had thought nothing of it. I was told to take Veramyst to help with my ear drums, and after taking Veramyst for a few days, I was able to watch TV, look at electronic screens, and focus on things for prolonged periods of time with no problem, but was still having the regular everyday out of body feelings. By the way, these feelings can occur any where between every minute to a half hour apart. I don't have them when my eyes are closed. After having my eyes closed for a long time during rest or sleep, I don't feel them at all. And once I open my eyes after a long period of rest, I don't have these out of body feelings as much. I had a EEG and they had me close my eyes and do hyperventalating and a strobe light, which did nothing. Then I opened my eyes and had a small out of body feeling, which left a small blip on the EEG. Also, these feelings correlate with my sleep. If I sleep more, they are less frequent and less strong. So far I have no idea what these feelings are, but I'm on the end of my rope with them. Thank you to everyone who was willing to read all of this!

I'm sorry I haven't posted here in a few days. I went to the neurologist, and was diagnosed with "Epilepsy." I get "Partial Siezures" in my temporal lobe. I'm taking 250mg of Kepra each night. The doctor put me on a low dose because I'm a redhead, and he told me that redheads are extra susceptible to meds and side effects.

Does anyone have extra information on Kepra?

Thanks to everyone who posts back with suggestions! Every suggestion gives me hope. And thanks very much for the warm welcome to the site. I did have a blood test, and everything was perfect. I have neurologist appoint on Friday, so I'll post here any new news that I get.

Seizures do seem like a plausibly idea at this point. Does anybody know if seizures that don't cause physical disturbances are easily treated? (and if asking a question like this here is a no-no just let me know)

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
There are two main things that should be eliminated. One is a middle ear infection. The other is a sleep disturbance. A sleep study should be done. Also these could be a type of focal epilepsy with visual hallucination. Dissociation from surrounding can also have a psychological component and hence a psychiatric consultation is a must. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Oh, I forgot to mention that my out of body feelings have come and gone before. Two years ago they started in March, and ended sometime before the next December. And this year, they started in March again. I'm thinking it could be allergies, but I've never heard of such strong allergy symptoms.

I've been looking at migraines as a probable cause. I've had 2 or 3 migraines in the last 2 years, and I get an aura with my eyes, but it's nothing like the out of body feelings which happen everyday and don't leave me with a headache (I'm pretty sure you don't have to get a headache for it to be a migraine, but I think that is a strike against that theory). Thanks for the input!

Has anyone thought about migraines? My youngest daughter describes the "aura" she gets as a "vision" which she got the terminology from watching That's So Raven.  And it sounds like what you are describing.  Sometimes she just has the vision and then rests and is better, other times she definitely needs motrin and rest.  Good luck,"
