Vaginal itching around time of period?

For the past 4 months, I've developed a terrible itch/redness in the vaginal area about 5 days prior to my period; it goes away 2 or 3 days after I 'start.'

I've never had a yeast infection before, but the first month it happened I assumed that's what it was.  I treated it OTC to save a trip to the doctor.  Since then, I've just lived with it until it passed.

I have an annual exam coming up within the next month, and this problem is top of my list for discussion.  However, if anyone has any advice or personal experience with something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.

P.S.  I'm married and both of us are completely monogamous - it cannot be an STD of any sort.  Haven't changed laundry detergent, body soap, lotion, perfume, or anything else I can think of in quite some time.

Hi ladies. As per my earlier posts, I promised I would update and share what's going on. So far the past few cycles have been fine. I have been using the Rephresh inserts after my cycles, using the full course and haven't even had to use any itch ointments thus far. I have found that tampon string can cause a little irritation so I have been using a petroleum based antibiotic ointments or even just good old fashioned Vaseline around the base of the cord. It keeps me from getting irritated. So far stay on this regimen has proved successful and I'm sticking with it!! Besides the monthly treatment of the Rephresh insert, I am using the oral RepHresh Pro-B (Pro-biotics) They aren't cheap but I'm worth it. The good thing is once you buy the inserts and the Pro biotics all the box's come with coupons! Anyways, to make a long story short, give it a try and maybe it's just a PH issue. I am midway through this months cycle and thank God all is well. I have also been doing some meditation and positive affirmations about myself and this issue! Some may think it's flaky but I don't care. It works for me!! We have to understand that so many of our physical ailments or diseases are centered at our emotional level. Once you get that concept and work on other issues in our lives we notice things getting better! I am a diabetic and these things are helping my Diabetes as well. An awesome book to read is called You can heal your Life, by Louise L. Hay. She is an inspiration!! She has helped millions of people all over the world. So many of us don;t even realize that we have issues, but we do!! Good luck!!! Love to you all!!

I hate this stuff! I am already 6 days late for my period so now the itching just keeps on going. I guess usually the menstrual blood cleanses me out and makes the itch go away but since Im late...........This is agony. It seems worse at night. You would think that there would be a cure for this. You want to scratch so bad but if you do then you get really sore.

Probably it's not but made me think of Erythrasma.

It's caused by a bacteria in the blood.

when you are suggested some type of diagnosis try to look up Google Images and compare with your problem!

Hi all and Im so happy I am not alone! I just started this last month and Im usually the one to get things happen that is unusual. I was worried, until now I see its human and I have no other symptoms accept itching... I have no insurance and so havent been to the doc. I just realized, like a light bulb went off in my head, that this is pre-menstrual... Both times it happend about a week before my period! Then when Im off the 3 weeks of the pill, onto the sugar I never take, it stops and I get my period! Its only for 3-4 days and I bought Vagisil and it works just fine. I noticed also its in the afternoon, early evening, for some reason. Maybe after sweatin a little from work ect... I would take my shower and put Vagisil on and am good until the next day!
Im so relieved to know I am not alone.... and I hope you all find some relief that works for you!

Yes, this is definitely a relief.  After reading post from 2009, I finally came across someone with the same symptoms at the same time, lola87, mine happens off and one throughout the last years, but at the END of my cycle.  Like now.  I started on 30th of April and I'm done today, but the itching started yesterday and even worse today.  THANK YOU SO MUCH LOLAJUANIE and INTERIOR MOTIVATOR for the info.  I will definitely be getting the stuff I need to get and STAY better.  I do love sweets, and for the last few days since my husband has been away, I have not been eating as I should.  And since he's been gone for a month, at the beginning I was not eating any vegetables at all, no greens, etc. smh  I think I've learned my lesson. Thanks again loves! abd good luck to the next batch of sufferers.

I too have been experiencing this. The itch begins a couple days before my period & ends a day or2 after. I went to doc a few minths ago, but didnt walk away w/any answers. I was told to use Cortizone 10 to help w/itch. It releaves the itch till night time then I reaply. I have been on the IUD since after having my 2nd child 3 1/2 yrs ago. Not sure if there's a connection or not. Didn't have this after my 1st child though & was on IuD then. I do know that things could simp/y be diff though. Would love an answer as to what has caused this & if there's a way to cure it for good!
