What could cause sharp pain in my hands/fingers when there has been no trauma?

When I am doing every day things with my hands I will sometimes get a sudden sharp pain, sometimes in the palm of my hand, sometimes the finger or finger tips. It will then be very tender to pressure for several days. This pain is not happening in any joints.
For instance, this morning while doing a clasp on my clothes this happened in the middle of the pad of my thumb. It hurts now when there is pressure applied, but it is quite painful and takes my breath away. There is no bruise or swelling.
I have had a blood vessel burst in the palm of my hand before due to slight trauma and this feels very similar, but there is no discoloration and there has been no "trauma".
It seems to be happening more often. As a matter of fact, the palm of my hand is still healing from this pain that started almost 2 weeks ago and now my thumb is hurt.
I've searched high and low & I'm having trouble finding any answers online.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
