allergic reaction around menstrual cycle

I began having allergic reactions around the age of 15; however, after much testing, it seems as though I wasn't allergic to anything.  So, my doctor sent me to many specialists - to no avail.  No one was able to diagnose my problem.  I charted the food I ate, the time of day, the activities I was doing all at the time of these reactions.  The only thing that was the same throughout was that I was in the process of my menstrual cycle (whether it was during, right before, or right after).  Since then, the only time period that I didn't have an allergic reaction was during the time that I was on birth control pills.  I've recently had a miscarriage, and during the pregnancy I had 2 "allergic reactions" (one 2 days before I found out I was pregnant, and one a few days after the actual miscarriage).  What could be causing these allergic reactions?...or is it these allergic reactions that are causing my problems with conceiving a child?  Please help!

Some of the symptoms you've mentioned - vomiting, diarrhea, lightheadedness - could possibly be symptoms of toxic shock syndrome.  Do you use tampons?

I would suggest talking to your OB/GYN about these symptoms (especially if you do use tampons) and ask them if they think it might possibly be related to toxic shock.  I'm suggesting your OB/GYN rather than your primary doctor only because they would typically have more knowledge and experience with toxic shock than a family doctor.

You may want to try a little experiment also - if you normally do use tampons, next time you have your period, try using a pad instead and see if you still have the same symptoms.  If you do not, it may give some further insight as to what's going on, whether it be toxic shock or perhaps even an "allergy" to something your tampons are made of.

Best of luck and keep us posted.
