anal itch

I have a rash around my anus, and it seems that it itches more so when I have to go number 2 or pass gas. Is it possible that something in my poop is causing the itch? any soothing ideas? Thanks

what are other signs of threadworms or intestinal parasites? Im bloated, and often feel like i have not completed my bowel movements which are frequent, pretty stinky farts, fatigue, soreness of joints, also a weird itchy/dry feeling in my ears. All along with this annoying itch in and around the anus. At times it feels itchy along my inner thighs and groin under the skin. weird huh? I had a colonoscopy about a month ago, and he found noothing wrong, and contributed it to IBS with a fungal rash, but symptoms have not eased since a perscription of lotramin. So, would like to figure this out with out going back to dr. THnks so much for your thoughts

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!

Itchy anus can be due to undigested food like citrus fruits, grapes, certain spices, tomatoes, certain medicines like antibiotics and laxatives and certain drinks like beer, milk, tea, or coffee. Anal fissures, hemorrhoids, threadworms and other worms can all cause anal itch. Itch can also be due to irritants like synthetic fiber, toiletries or fungal infection.
You should consult your doctor for this. The first step would be to get your stool examined for worms and undigested food.
Hope these tips help. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi Penny,

I would suggest that you visit your doctor and not simply look for OTC medications. Thir itch and rash could be due to worm infection.
