I have had hypothyroidusm for 16 years. In May of this year, I became very sick. I thought is was a bug of some kind and went to urgent care where I was given an antibiotic and vicodin for my "unable to swallow" sore throat. The doctor told me that if the symptoms were not gone within 10 days, to see me regular doctor. Two weeks later I went to see my Internist. After tons of blood work (repeated twice), an ekg, and thorough examination, he diagnosed me with an unidentified endocrine problem causing poly glandular failure. I was referred to my endocrinologist that treats my hypothyroidism. He repeated the blood tests (four times) and said that my thyroid meds needed adjusting and I had prolactinemia. I had the prolactinemia previously. He had taken me off the Dostinex about four months earlier. When the prolactinemia started, they said it was caused by an "empty sella". aka my pitiuitary had shrunk or been damaged from a car accident. This time he had me get another MRI and told me I had a prolactinoma, but the Dostinex would shrink it. Some of the abnormal tests were Cortisol, Growth Hormone, Prolatin, Parathyroid, Calcium, and several others. I asked about the calcium and was told "nothing to worry about". By this time two months have gone by since onset of illness and I'm not any better. Saw my Internist and was asked about my treatment. He became upset that it was taking so long while still showing no improvement. He was really concerned about the calcium level. Two weeks later my Endo called and wanted to see me. I went in and was told I had another tumor (adenoma) on my parathyroid and he wanted more tests. I was shocked to find out about the other tumor and guess what, the high calcium was one of the symptoms. I now have a pituitary insufficiency, hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, and prolatinemia. I'm still sick??? Symptoms nausea, diarrhea or constipation no happy medium, stomache pain, low right side pain, horrible headaches, extreme fatigue (can sleep 16+ hours), lethargy, no sex drive, no drive of any kind, antipathy toward everything I loved to do, unable to regulate body temperature (either freezing of sweating and no appetite. Any one out there who might know what I should do next, besides get a second opinion?
Thanks, Jeannie
