My mom had her gallbladder out, and has told me that what i have sounds like what she had. Mostly. Except hers would persist, where as my issue only gets really bad 2-3 times per year. I recently had an ultrasound for my gallbladder and they alse checked out my liver and kidneys, apparantly everything is fine in that area. The first doctor i went to told me to 'take an ibuprofin and it will go away'. Well lets just say that method certainly did NOT help. Antacids used to help a little, now they either do nothing or make it worse. My current dr has perscribed me over the counter antacids, which i cant afford, so i dont know if that will work or not, and after that she told me we will be going down the scope route again. For now, i just have a hot shower, which can make it less uncomfortable, or i lay down and try to sleep. I am also on YAZ and CELEXA, if that makes any difference, but my dr says it shouldnt. I am also in line to get my thyroid checked out. I have so many undiagnosed health issues right now its not even funny, but im sure it will be resolved sooner or later *fingers crossed*. Thanks for the help. Ill mention everything to my dr on the next visit. :)
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you have pain under your right rib then there could be a liver infection or a gall bladder problem. Get a liver function test, ultrasound or CT of abdomen, and pancreatic enzymes. It can also be due to acidity and duodenal ulcer. Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas. It could also be muscle pull that can be treated by applying local analgesic creams. It could also be costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause. However it can be due to infection, blow, injury, or fibromyalgia. It usually goes away on its own. Otherwise it can be treated with muscle relaxants, and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. It can also be muscle pull. Shingles can also start this way. If all these are ruled out, then laproscopy should be done. Such an undiagnosed pain is usually due to adhesions and cutting the adhesions takes care of the pain. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss with your doctor once. Hope this helps. Take care!
hi ther only advice i have on this is i get it too. but have'nt had it for a good while.
my mother and two sisters also. they ended up getting their gallbladders out.. thing is, it took a long time to diagnose as the tests all came back normal for gallbladder but in the end it was. my nephew also had this last year and was in hospital for a while .. his tests all came back normal too. took my sister a good while to explain to docs that she had gone through the same thing. in the end they done some more tests and took the gallbladder out. im really still unsure why the tests look normal when gallbladder isnt..
i hope you get some help with this its awful pain .. i know
