multipal symptoms - no answer after 1 year

I am a 38 year old woman who is over weight.  I am 5'1" and weigh 234 lbs.  In the last year my foot started to swell and became very painfull to touch the top of it.  I was also diagnosed with High Blood Pressure so now I am on Aticand (which is working very well).  Now my foot went down for about 4 months.  Then recently it started to swell again and more painfull then ever.  I had extensive blood work done and there is a pattern of my WBC starting off at 1200 a month ago and now it is 1500.  My doctor says that I need to see a heomotologist at the cancer clinic and he has mentioned Leukemia.  Can anyone tell me if there could be any other explanation

had my cbc done again and again it went up to 1600.  im not sure what you ment by lower range as the walk in clinic doctor keeps saying that it is high?  im very confused about the white count and also lymphosites (bad spelling) and the report said a few, but when i ask him about the count all he could say is that sometimes people just have white counts that are high.  my confusion is that it keeps going up and no one can explain to me why or what it means

Hello,

There are a number of causes which can lead to painful swelling of the foot, overweight being one of them.

Other conditions which can lead to painful foot swelling are diabetes leading to cellulites, rheumatoid arthritis(swelling of feet and fever, swollen painful, tender joints are there),gout(swelling and pain in the feet along with red, swollen big toe that hurts when anything touches it),venous insufficiency, varicose veins and heart and kidney disorders.

It is very difficult to pinpoint any cause without complete physical examination and laboratory investigations like bld sugar,RA factor, serum creatinine and uric acid,ECG and kidney function tests.Pls consult a physician for the exact diagnosis.

White blood cells or leukocytes defend the body against infection. The total number of white blood cells ranges from 4,000 to 11,000 per cubic millimeter in the average healthy adult. A high WBC count may mean the body is fighting an infection or having leukemia or inflammatory disorders like rheumatoid arthritis. A low WBC count may mean there is a bone marrow problem either from chronic disease or from collagen-vascular diseases (such as lupus erythematosus) or from diseases of the liver or spleen.

Your description of WBC count as 1200-1500 falls in the lower range. So there can be a bone marrow problem but leukemia is unlikely as it often has elevated WBC’s.

In my opinion you should take a second opinion from a physician and get yourself evaluated.

Take care and pls do keep posting in how you are doing.
