my  26 year old son was admitted to the hospital on saturday morning gasping for breath, low heart rate to 45 per min and elevated bp  149/93. they dismissed it as viral and discharged him after giving him oxygen. he is still light headed and pulse still low at 50 pm.  sounds familiar?

He did an ECG and a chest xray and they said they were  okay. today his breathing is normal; his BP is 134/77 pulse still at 44

he goes to the gym 5 days a week and works out sometimes for 4 hours. also plays basketball on some days.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since the pulse rate is low, BP high and he was gasping, and your son though pretty young could be having either be heart pathology or even a clot in lung called pulmonary embolism. Was EKG/ECG done? If not, then please get a 12 lead EKG done immediately. Take your son to a cardiologist or a chest specialist immediately. He may also need a CT of the lung. Unless he is an athlete, such a low pulse rate and such symptoms are not normal. Please consult a specialist immediately.
Take care!
