unexplained weight loss

For some reason over the last 2 months I have lost 16lbs, I have not been dieting or doing anything different to how I have always been.

At the moment I weigh 117lbs and my bmi is 19.48 I am 5ft 4.5 tall. The majority of this weight loss has occurred around the time I was ill and has continued after (another post: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Urology/Bladder-infection-and-ultrasound/show/1940827).

The only new symptom I have is that I have trouble sleeping (getting to sleep and then waking in the early hours unable to return to sleep). Most of the symptoms from my previous post have gone, but I am left with a tummy that feels bruised inside and is uncomfortable and tender.

Should I book an appointment with my GP? I don't like to waste his time. Should I keep a food diary maybe?

You can eat less than "normal" and still gain weight.  Just depends on the fat and sugar content in the foods that you choose to eat.

If eating the required calories as recommended and still losing weight, then this would need to be investigated.

As you were ill and not eating properly, this is the reason for losing the weight.

It would be a good idea to keep a food diary to establish if you have a food intolerance to a particular food.

As you are still feeling bruised inside, uncomfortable and tender, you may have inflammation of the bowels.  Triggered off by either bacteria or an intolerance to something that you are eating.

The reason we lose weight is when we consume less calories than our body needs.  Once you start to eat more calories than your body needs you will start to gain weight.

If you still persist in having an inflamed and uncomfortable tummy, then see your doctor if you are concerned.

Best wishes.
