Thank you for your suggestions, I'll talk to our Dr again and see if we can have both possibilities looked into.
In regards to treatment of Poikilluria - I've tried the timer, first every 10 minutes, then every 15 - both of which just angered her. I set it to 20 minutes, she went on the potty and before 20 min was up she had peed herself 3 times.
I will be visiting our Dr soon and will update.
Hi,
Children do not have a set routine based on which they pee at particular intervals.
It is regrettable that she had a setback due to diaper use, but there are a few explanations that will need to be correlated with her symptoms.
A urinary tract infection can cause increased frequency and is detected by the presence of bacteria on urinalysis. This needs to be treated with antibiotics and will usually subside once the infection has been eradicated.
Poikilluria is another condition where children pass large amounts of urine very frequently. There is no physical cause for this and needs to be managed with adequate emotional support and disciplined management of the child. This will include that you set a timer and put her on the potty at the right time. It can be frustrating initially, but she will learn to manage by herself soon.
It is better not to stress too much on potty training with a child that age as too intensive training may cause abnormal behavior with regard to urination and defecation.
Do keep us posted on any other symptoms she has or doubts in this regard.
