Epididymitis ?

I went to the doctors with an aching left testicle, he diagnosed mild epydidimitis and put me on 2 weeks of Doxycycline now Im getting good days and bad, sometimes the symptoms go completely, if a do a manual inspection it seems to inflame the situation, how long can this take to settle completely, or could it be something else?

Hi,

Just complete your antibiotics and follow your physician's advice. A complete medical history and physical examination by an experienced physician may be enough to ascertain the most likely diagnosis. Come back after the medications ,so your response may be assessed.

Keep us posted regarding your physician's advice.

No samples were taken, no ultrasound was done, my GP just felt around for a while and stated its probably mild epididymitis, he said if it doesn't clear up at the end of the antibiotics to go back to him and he will review the situation, I guess he will refer me to a urologist.

Hi,

I just need to know some things :

What tests were done during your consult? Were a urinalysis, a urine culture and culture of the urethral discharge or prostate secretion done?

Was a testicular ultrasound done ?

I suggest you complete your entire course of antibiotics.Antibiotics are usually given as empiric treatment while waiting for test results. A urethral swab culture and  urine culture may help guide treatment. Follow up with your physician after completing your medications so your response to therapy will be assessed. There may be a need to modify medications at the end of therapy.

Refrain from unnecessarily touching the area and abstain from sexual activity until you have been properly advised by your doctor.
