Is prostatitis infectious?

Hi
My partner has symptoms that indicate likely prostatitis. I am wodnering if it is safe for us to have unprotected vaginal or oral sex, or whether I could get an infection from his semen if he does have bacterial prostatitis. Can anyone advise please?

Thank you so much Dr Singh. What you say is very reassuring and bears out information I also found elsewhere after posting my question. It does seem a bit counterintuitive though and I would be interested to know how people can be so sure the infection cannot be sexually transmitted. Do you know of any evidence about this? Is it that the semen does not itself contain the infectious agent?

Many thanks!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Despite their names of acute and chronic prostatitis and the fact that they are caused by bacterial infection, they are not contagious like sexually transmitted diseases and you cannot contract them from your partner.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
