Mucus in urine, lower back pain

I am a male 60 yrs. of age and in generally good health.  My urologist diagnosed me with benign prostate disease approx. 15 yrs. ago.  I have not seen a urologist in at least ten years.  My MD found mucus in my urine on my last visit when I was complaining of lower back pain (constant dull ache) which I have had for about two months.  What are the possible causes of this?  My MD said to cut back on my coffee intake but the problem seems more serious than that.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Low back ache and mucus in urine suggest infection. But this could also happen due to stones in the urinary tract or retention of urine due to BPH leading to infection.
I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture and prostrate examination done by a urologist and follow his advise.
Best.
