I had TURP operation on 30th October 2010. Even today I have restited flow and urgency and requent urination. Doc says ballder will take more time. He suggests caliberation of urethra and scanning for residual urine and uroflow meter test . Pl advise is it normal to have such issues even after 2 to 3 months of TURP

Ron,

My husband may be facing permanent self catheterization because of a decompensated bladder.  He'll have a TURP in a couple of months.
Can you tell me how you've coped for many years with self-catheritization?   Do you mind if I ask you a few questions about it?
How often do you cath each day?
Does it prevent you from traveling and enjoying life?
Many complications with UTI's, irritation etc?

Joe's been cathing for several weeks now -- he disposes of the catheters when he's done.

We just need someone who's been through this to talk to.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi,

I had a TURP and resection of the bladderneck in 1995, at the age of 30 due to an obstruction at the bladderneck.
The surgery seemed OK for a while untill I started having urination problems again.

If you had an obstruction it is likely that your bladder had been stretched. Due to that, it may take extra time before things will return to normal again. The restricted flow after the procedure seems odd to me.

All the best.

Ron
