Painful and itchy penis

This January my son (2 years old) got a rash in the pelvic area that became infected, having a white top on each spot. He was prescribed mupirocin and he got well. The rash came back, also in his legs (like spreading) Everytime he has the rash (looks like pimples 5-6 at the time in the pelvic area and his penis very swallen and red) The rash came back for the 3rd time and the doctor said that was yeast, now he was prescribed nystatin, got better. Now for the 4th time, it came back, I put immediatly the mupirocin, but this time the rash persisted and I was told to put also the nystatin, the rash is going away, but not the redness in the penis and he screams everytime we change his diaper and complains about pain all day and all night. I don't think this is a yeast infection anymore, i feel he has a virus in his system or maybe something related to the penis that makes him scream. Please advise me!

Four years later - here are some thoughts from a non-medical person for others who might find your post.  I would:

-- first  have a culture taken of the infected area(s)
-- use cotton diapers
-- do not use dryer sheets
-- do not use talcum powder with talc
And, back to the first - cultures should have been taken.

also - don't stop using the cream when it's not visible anymore ... keep using it for a few more days or so ... just like with antibiotics ... finish the tube, if you have to ... also ... if it is related to thrush ...?? those creams & Rxs did not work for my son ... someone told me to try glycerin.  I rubbed it in his mouth and the infection cleared up within 24 hours ... if it's similar, try rubbing the area with glycerin ... good luck!

make sure that you wash all of his clothes well and change the washcloths that you use to wash/wipe him.  Maybe he is getting re-infected by something that still contains the yeast ...???  Hope the little munchkin gets better!
