Painful urination, negative culture, no apparent reason

Will give as brief a history as possible.  Had hysterectomy 7 weeks ago b/c of large fibroid which was pressing on my bladder.  I have had "overflow" incontinence for 20 years.  Surgery entirely corrected the problem for approximately 3 weeks.  I now am emptying much slower, have sharp pain at final stage of elimination and have some "overflow" incontinence with a reddish acidic (smells like acetic acid) discharge.  There are RBC's in urine but negative culture results.  A cystoscopy revealed only that the bladder opening is narrow and inflamed which I'm told by the urologist is common for a 46 year old woman as myself.  I have high pain tolerance and actually screamed out during the cystoscopy when he must have reached the narrow opening.  Common sense tells me this is not "normal".  Should I find another urologist?  Any ideas what this could be?  Three weeks of  freedom from incontinence was wonderful.  I so want it again.
Thanks.

My Urologist told me to stay away from Vit. C and Cranberries, too harsh on the bladder.  Good luck!

Hi,

Painful urination or dysuria describes any pain, discomfort, or burning sensation during urination. This could be attributed to a lot of causes.  A second opinion may be helpful to determine the cause. However, a visit to your gynecologist may also be helpful to rule out other causes.

Take care and regards.

I feel your pain!  I'm surprised that he told you that the inflammation was common in a 46 year old.  Inflammation is not common.  There is a reason why there is inflammation.  I can understand the narrowing but not the inflammation being common.  If you don't like what he is telling you then get a second opinion, but make sure your insurance will cover that new physician.    I am a woman with the nickname Joey  because my boss was foreign and he could not say JOY!!  God Bless!  Joey11111
