Poorly defined lesion on kidney

Hi my husband has been suffering from kidney stones for 20 years now and his last bout was September 2013 were he had yet another blockage which had to be removed in October after a stent being inserted again. Ct scan after op in October 2013 showed another 2 x 2mm stones in left kidney always same kidney. He took renal colic pain beginning of March 2014 and got an emergency appointment with consultant who organised ultrasound. went for results on Monday and was shocked to be told that stones still there but the have found an poorly defined lesion which does not have the appearance of a simple cyst. Urologist said that he will have to have ct scan with contrast which is on Monday. And he will have to get it removed but they need to know what they are dealing with. We are really anxious anyone heard of this that could help.
Thanks Elaine. x

Doc told us Ct scan showed its 1.7cm they are still not sure if its complex cyst or tumour.  But he said that apparently on 2009 it was 1.3cm and we were not told he said maybe they thought it was a simple cyst but this is not the case now. What they want to do is see him in 6 months then arrange for another scan about 10 months see him  after that all in about a year not happy he said as soon as it reaches 2cmm or above it will be removed. I attened him too and am going tomorrow so am going to ask about bosnaik grading as I have read up on complex cysts. He wasvtold scan also showed he has another 2 cysts on kidney but they are simple cysts they think as well as 2 stones. And scan showed cysts on liver.thanks for replying to me. X

It could be scar tissue and cysts on kidneys getting beat up by stones is normal. Hemorraghic cysts in particular can present with ill definined borders.  so try not to freak out yet. When the MRI is done and you talk to doc ask what scale the lesion is  on the Bosniak scale.
