Post-Catheter Urethral Problems

I had an indwelling catheter for 3 weeks post-surgery. After it's removal I had  difficulty passing urine (or totally blocked), swollen penis, discharge, dribbling and tender groin area. Diagnosed with a UTI and taking Cipro. Still very difficult to pass urine, small stream, drips, still swollen. I've been on Cipro for 3 days (500mg/2 daily). I also take Ibuprophen to help with the swelling; it sometimes allows me to urinate a little.
How long will it take to clear this blockage up and be able to urinate properly if this is just a urethral infection?
Or when should I go back to the doctors?

You're right. I'm on it for 7 days. Today is day 7 and it's pretty much gone. Big change from 3 days ago. Hope like hell this doesn't come back.

You might need alot longer than 3days worth as my friend had problem after prostrate surgery etc and gets uti's etc from time to time.
He was telling me about it other day warning me about it and said not to let them give you a womans dose of anti's ie 3days as males waterworks are alot longer than a females.
so normally need 10 days sometimes need to repeat.
hope that's of some help?
