Urodynamics

I am scheduled to have a urodynamic test tomorrow.  I  am a male and I am petrified at the thought of be catheterized, I don't know what position I will be in, on top of that I guess there is a rectal catheter as well.  I am 48 y/o and the thing just drives me nuts.  Can anyone shed some light on what will happen tomorrow.  I thought that I was doing well but now that it is tomorrow I just need to know.  I am a mans man some of this just doesn't feel right.  On the other hand my wife says to stop being a wimp.  So am I?

I have done both the cystoscopy and the pressure-flow urodynamic studies last December. They found my prostate, despite normal in size, was obstructive. Due to the very high post void residual and to prevent worsening conditions (e.g. retention) with potential problems on kidneys, decision was for a TURP surgery which I have done in January. I will post elsewhere on recovery.

No, I did not have cystoscopy yet, my urologist said I would probably need to have it done but she wanted to try some medications first.  Good luck with your tests, I would love to hear how it goes for to you.

Well I had my test done yesterday, not neary as bad as I imagined.  First she put the Emg on behind and then I had to pee for her.  Then I had to get on the table, she put the lidocaine gel in, and the catheter.  The worst part was going past prostrate but that wasen't even that bad.  Then she put the rectal catheter in and wasen't bad at all.  Then she started filling my badder and did the test.  When I was filled to capacity she told me to pee again, yes she was there watching me, but by that time I didn't care, I had to go.  The whole time I did the test there was no covering or sheet, just me nude from the waist down, and my shirt up so I didn't get it wet.  Today I still have some burning but its definilty getting better.  I meet with the doctor next week.  I hope this helps some of you, again it's way better then I imagined.

Well thats exactly what I didn't want to hear.  My goodness I don't want tomorrow to come.  So did the penis catheter hurt or did they use some numbing stuff?

I smile because I know your feeling.  After tomorrow, you will have a colorful story to tell.  I argued with the testers (2 gorgeous women) that only women used stirrups.  They quickly grabbed my feet and put them in the stirrups then removed my modesty sheet.  They inserted a very small diameter catheter into the penis and another into the rectum.  Then they started saline running into the bladder and the urologist told me to let him know when I felt full.  I let him know and one of the girls handed me a urinal told me to void.  I had to get the 3 women to turn their backs so I could do my thing.  That is it.  I had a hard time talking to them the next visit but I finally go over it.

Good luck and enjoy?
