possible complication of ureteral stent

I underwent cystoscopy just this month due to ureteral stricture and a stent was placed in my right ureter. Is having a stent would predispose me to developing kidney failure?? or is it a possible risk factor??

Having the stent put into the ureter is helping you not to have kidney failure.   While the stent is in, this allows the ureter to heal.  When you had the cystoscopy, the surgeon must have found something not right with your ureter and that is why a stent was inserted.

Has your consultant said when it is likely they will take the stent out?  They usually give an indication when this is likely to be.

My friend actually had kidney failure last September, and had a stent put in.  She still has it in now.  She is to have a full hysterectomy, a vein cleaned out and a growth removed that is attached to her heart muscle on tuesday.  When she is recovered from this operation, she has been told that the stent will be removed once everything is healed.

Hope this helps to put your mind at ease.

If you have any questions about the stent, you should ask your consultant, who will be able to tell you want you want to know.

Best wishes.

Im not sure but I don't believe kidney failure would be a result of a stent. I had two stents after two surgeries and I did not have kidney failure from them. If you suspect you have it please make sure to notify your doctor today !! Don't let kidney failure go untreated. I almost died from it a couple yrs ago.
