Vitamin D Deficiency

My Endo has prescribed for me to take 50,000 IU of Vitamin once a week for three months due to a Vitamin D deficiency (level was 16).  Has anyone else been diagnosed with this and taken that high amount of Vitamin D?

I have Graves Disease, but am currently in remission.  The Endo does lab work every 2 months and keeps close tabs on my progress.

Thanks for any comments!

I have been taking 50,000 units for about 5 months now. They helped initially, but not so much now. I am tired all the time.

That's a great idea.  My Endo told me today that if I feel uncomfortable taking the 50,000 pill, I can just take what I want from "over the counter".  She just said to hurry and start taking the supplements.  I bought the 1,000 mg pills today (didn't see 2,000 mg).  Will go to Sam's once these are gone :o)

Hope my nails start growing again.  That's one noticeable difference (nails, hair & skin).

These are 2,000 mg. Found them at Sam's club.  Hence, I take 5 of them.

There is one thing I have noticed since I have started taking the Vit D.....my fingernails are growing.

Do they have 10,000 IU pills?  Thought 50,000 was the lowest prescription dose....

I had same symptoms and doing 100% improved but it took 4-6 weeks and was on 100,000 iu's and now maintained on 50,000 iu's per week but doing great.

I thought I was hypo and my keen doc did the Vit D!!!!

I was 9 on scale of 32-100

No side effects from the Vit D

That's the one that I was prescribed.  Think I'll start taking.  Am most concerned about any side effects, but most people don't seem to have many, if any.

Thanks for your reply!

As I said in the adrenal forum, I took 50,000 UI/day for 2 full months and now I take 2,000/day. I did not notice any bad effect at all... but I did not notice positive effects neither. I don't remember which vit D at 50,000 UI I was taking, it was a small green gel  by prescription.

I never felt any side effects from the 50,000 IU ofVvitamin D.  Like I said I did the regime 3 times (I think) in 2 years.  There was improvement but because I have kidney failure I won't feel 100% better.  Facing kidney failure is very scary hence the anxiousworriedscared.  :-)   You shouldn't worry about side effects.

I am taking 10,000 a day, at the drs suggestion. I have not noticed any difference yet. I am hoping it will help with the sleeping.

I understand that you are taking the 50,000 IU of Vitamin D.  Can you tell me if you have had any side effects, etc.

Thanks so much!

It's actually D2 that she has put me on.  Plant derived, but still a prescription.

To and extent...  I can't say I'm 100% and probably never will be.  I feel it when I miss a dose or two.

Did the Vitamin D therapy help you at all?

I did a few rounds of Vitamin D therapy due to a chronic kidney disease and hyperparathyroidism.  My levels were extremely low and I have all the same issues you have.  The joint pain is nearly crippling for me and I never sleep anymore.  Hope you get better soon.

Yes I did that regime, same amount and time frame.

I did not have side effects, but it did helpe with the muscle aches.

My last Vit D level after the regime was 40, just last week got it rechecked because I think it is low again.

By the way - the Endo decided to check my Vitamin D levels after I constantly complained of the following:

-Fatigue / No energy at all
-Painful joints &muscles
-Irregular sleep pattern
-No Stamina
-No motivation
