I agree with the advice you've already been given. I would like to add that you may want to check the amount of your food intake. If you drop it too far, while increasing your exercise, your body thinks your survival is threatened. At that point, an amazing defense mechanism is implemented that makes you feel tired - thus preserving your energy.
While I believe it may just be the change in your sugar levels (you did drink sugared soda, not diet, right???) ... it is important that you have some way of monitoring your food intake compared to the energy you are burning (exercise) and the calories needed to maintain your weight.
You will need to cut and/or burn a total of 3,500 calories for each pound you lose and you should plan on losing 1-2 pounds per week. If you need help figuring any of this, just let me know.
You definitely are on the right track and making positive and healthy choices for YOU!!! Congratulations!
Thanks everyone for all the great advice! I do plan to get a check up as soon as I find a family doctor just to make sure everything is ok and that I am healthy! Also to let my doctor know what I'm doing and so that he/she can then tell me if there's anything I'm doing that i should change, or maybe other things I could be doing. I still haven't had any soda and am starting to slowly feel better. The tiredness seems to be getting replaced with more and more energy! This is great! Thanks once again everyone for all the advice and support! =]
I agree with the other ladies! When you quit something addictive (such as pop) you will feel this way, especially cold turkey (BTW- GREAT JOB!). Your body WILL adjust. Give yourself a few more days. Also, start your workouts slow (like walking and lifting light weights); don't overdo it or you'll hurt yourself.
I cannot wait to see what happens with you!
And I cannot tell you how energetic I have felt recently. It took a week or so to adjust to the new lifestyle but I am feeling great.
Got_To_Do_It is right about the blood sugar thing, but if you aren't used to exercising, you might also be overdoing it. We all want to lose weight quickly and get really "gung ho" about exercising, etc and it's easy to overdo. Most likely, you didn't gain the weight over night; and you won't be able to lose it over night either.
It's best to start slowly and make small changes - that way it will be easier to make changes that you will be able to live with.
It might be a good idea also to check with your doctor to make sure you don't have any health issues that could cause weight gain/retention such as hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, or other issues.
Good luck
I was the same as you when I quit soda cold turley - it is just your body sdjusting to the lack of sugar- it has got used to being on a sugar high - and as you diet and exercise it is learning to work within correct sugar levels and not work so hard to keep producing insulin to bring your levels to normal...
Well done on quiting soda and on making the hard decision to eat better and to exercise - it will take 10-17 days if you are like me it took 17 days for my body to say YEAH I LIKE THIS and all of a sudden I had renewed energy and a better attitude - stick with it- it is worth it :) x
