stressed out about weight!!

okay..I need some honest answers.  I'm 17, 5 ft. 4 in. and I weigh about 135-137 lbs.  Last summer I weighed about 125, and it didn't really take any extra effort, I was actually eating a good amount and felt really good.  But this year i don't know what happpened...I just went up to the 130's...and I CANNOT get back down.  I've tried everything...no sweets...drastically cutting calories...nothing works.  I might also mention that I run almost every day and walk..usually run three miles, and walk 1-2..so i'm pretty active.  I just don't know how to lose it, short of to just stop eating for like two weeks.  This is a major stress point for me, because when I don't eat I feel horrible and have a hard time exercising...if I don't get enough exercise I tend to get depressed...and running makes me hungry at the same time.  All I want to do is get back into the 120's..right now i just feel alot of guilt about my weight, and i feel gross and unattractive.  People have told me i'm not fat...but definitions of fat vary.  Someone please answer me honestly...i really need to solve this problem this summer!

Wow! 135lbs and you feel fat? If people around you say you are not fat, then maybe you are not. I would love to be 135!

I don't know what you are eating but it sounds to me that you may not be eating correctly. It sounds as if you are constantly active and if you are not eating right, your body may be going into starvation mode. Your body will store any and everything you eat if it senses you are not getting your normal food intake. It tricks itself into conservation mode.

But if you are eating right, then i dont know what to tell you.

Your weight sounds like a dream to me I'm 5' and weigh 150 although I did have a baby 7 months ago. I can't get my weight lower at all I cut calories and have protien water for breakfast and lunch with a regular dinner. In high school and at your age I weighed about 110 but I am 4' shorter than you are so I think you are probably just similarly to me in that you probably look better than you feel. chin up, I'm sure you look great, and I wish I was 135lbs.

Great ideas!

Be sure you are eating enough.  If you are extremely active and drastically cut calories, your body will hang on to every morsel it can.

If there is no change in your eating or exerciseing habbits then you can say your metabolism has changed and is slower...

My advice is write down for a week everything you eat -  weight it, measure it, and write down everything  -  even a sweet, a glass of water -  absolutley everything you eat or drink. A food diary can be very surprising.

This formula shows you 'roughly' how many calories your body needs to maintain its current weight -  so to lose weight you have to eat less calories per day....

What is your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?
Basal Metabolic Rate =Ideal Body Wt in lbs. X 13 calories per day.
So for me it 150lbs x 13 = 1950

What is your Activity Caloric Level (ACL)?
If you are bedridden, find 10% of your BMR.
If you are moderately active, find 30% of your BMR.
If you are very active, find 50% of your BMR.
So for me 30% of 1950 = 585

What is the sum of your BMR and your ACL?______
This is the number of calories your body needs daily to maintain your present weight.
So for me it is 2535.

So any day I eat less than 2535 calories I should be losing weight -  give the formula a go and see what your result is.

Remeber to lose  1lb you have to either eat 3500 calories less or burn off an extra 3500 to normal.

Also I suggest to everyone to get a pedometer - it is surprising how less active we are than we think -  the recommend amount of steps a day to be fit and healthy is 10,000 I still rarely manage it for a whole week. Try it and see how you do.

Good luck and str not to stress too much - If or one ow that the more I stress the more my body seems to retain fluid!
