Why am I not losing weight?

I've been on a strict anti-candida diet for the past two weeks - absolutely no sugar and very low carbs.  I need to lose the candida, but 25 pounds would be a bonus for me too!  In the past on far less strict diets I have lost a predictable amount of weight - usually 4-5 lbs. the first week and 1-2 lbs. per week thereafter.  But although I can feel change in my body, there is absolutely no weight loss, in fact I've gained a pound!  I will add that I have NOT exercised at all - so muscle gain can not be the answer.  Any ideas?  I'm feeling good but it's starting to get me discouraged.

With the utmost respect and in the spirit of providing assistance, may I ask if you have a particular diagnosed medical condition that would warrant this type of a diet?  If so and you are under a doctor's care, you may want to contact him/her if the weight gain continues.  Otherwise, you may want to consider whether a healthy diet comprised of all the food groups might help you with the natural balance of candida and bacteria that is normal for our bodies.

Below I have posted a study from the National Institutes of Health you may find interesting about the Candida diet .. at least in regards to fatigue.  There are other studies that also show concern if restricting entire food groups as is sometimes done with this diet.

Either way, exercise is key to weight loss and implementing it 2-3 times a week is most beneficial.

You are able to track your calories here on MedHelp and I'd be happy to help you figure them if you list your foods in a journal entry.

Very best wishes to you ...

Dietary intervention in chronic fatigue syndrome.Hobday RA, Thomas S, O'Donovan A, Murphy M, Pinching AJ.
Infection and Immunity Speciality Group, St Bartholomew's Hospital, West Smithfield, London, UK. ***@****

BACKGROUND: Anecdotal reports and books have been published linking an over growth of Candida Albicans with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), suggesting dietary change as a treatment option. Little scientific data has been published to validate this controversial theory. This study aims to determine the efficacy of dietary intervention on level of fatigue and quality of life (QoL) in individuals with CFS. METHODS: A 24-week randomized intervention study was conducted with 52 individuals diagnosed with CFS. Patients were randomized to either a low sugar low yeast (LSLY) or healthy eating (HE) dietary interventions. Primary outcome measures were fatigue as measured by the Chalder Fatigue Score and QoL measured by Medical Outcomes Survey Short Form-36. RESULTS: A high drop out rate occurred with 13 participants not completing the final evaluation (7HE/6LSLY). Intention to treat analysis showed no statistically significant differences on primary outcome measurements. CONCLUSION: In this randomized control trial, a LSLY diet appeared to be no more efficacious on levels of fatigue or QoL compared to HE. Given the difficulty with dietary compliance experienced by participants, especially in the LSLY group, it would appear HE guidance is a more pragmatic approach than advocating a complicated dietary regime.

This is surprising and I am assuming you don't have a thyroid problem.  I once did the anti-candida plus no dairy or yeast and easily lost weight even with my thyroid issues.  Try looking at the calories you are eating.  Are you taking in too many fats or proteins to make up for the change?  Try using a web site like smartpeople where you can put in what you are eating and have it tell you the calories.  It doesn't matter what we exclude, if we don't decrease the calories the weight won't come off.  Be wary of diet pops too.  There are reports that they can increase your weight.  Drink lots of water to help your body clear out the toxics too.  Good luck!
