I'd like to lose about 40 to 50 pounds, and that'd put me around 125 to 135. I have no clue what my ideal weight is, but 175 most certainly isn't it! Definitely stop eating out. Even if you aren't really calorie conscious of the food you prepare at home, the ingredients are most likely better than all of the preservatives and high portions of restaurant dining. My husband lost ten pounds this month since I started cooking all his meals, and he refuses to touch any fruit or vegetable! I'm cooking separate meals for myself, obviously. Chicken, asparagus, and quinoa have been on my dinner plate. I'm still learning how to prepare a balanced meal to keep insulin regulated, which is key to fat loss. Just balance your meals and portions correctly, and you'll feel better. Good luck!
I'm 17 5'10 and I weigh 260 pounds. I'd like to be 190 at least. Within a year
I've lost 40 pounds more or less by cutting out mindless eating - the diet diary makes me track what I eat (ok, I do that, but the diary helps). It makes eating annoying, so I don't snack. That has helped more than I thought. I'd already done the no sugared soda, no fruit juice thing - but just cutting out grazing really helped me.
Start with baby steps. Baby steps are fine.
What do you consider a massive amount of weight?
Easiest place to start is drink water instead of sodas or other sweetened beverages. Stop eating sweets, chips and other junk foods.
Calculate your actual calorie needs and stay within your calorie allotment. Eat lots of veggies, lean meat, chicken, fish, etc to make sure you get plenty of protein.
You can try replacing one meal a day with a protein shake... I can recipes for some really yummy ones.
Get some exercise every day. You might start out with a brisk walk around your neighborhood for 30 minutes/day, or if you can't do 30 minutes, do 15 minutes, twice/day.
