Possible Eating Disorder?

I have been a vegetarian for over 8 years and now for a few months i have been a vegan.
Now i have quit bread and pastas. My boyfriend and friends think i have taken this too far and that
it might be considered an eating disorder. They all think im slowly eliminating everything and eventually only eating fruits and veggies.

Is this an eating disorder?? And unhealthy?

Thank you for providing this information.  Based on 5'11", 19 years old, female, 210 lbs and selecting a somewhat active lifestyle, you need 2,400 calories to MAINTAIN your weight.  It takes a calorie deficit (calorie savings) of 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound.

When we begin to lose weight and change our eating behavior, it is important that we let our knowledge rule our decisions.  Taking a well balanced diet and reducing it to basically only fruits and vegetables is not healthy and may be indicating an eating disorder.

An eating disorder displays itself in many ways .. an extreme focus on food, eating when we are not hungry, starving ourselves, eating due to emotions, binging, purging .. and can include cutting out foods all together.

All food groups are necessary to be healthy.  You say you feel like you're eating too much of it .. but then you want to cut it out entirely.  Learning how to balance the amount you eat is part of the learning process and failure to do so does indicate an eating disorder.

This community and I will be happy to work with you .. if you'd like to learn how to eat healthy.  There are ways to do so and maintain your vegan status if you so choose.

May I suggest you write down what you eat for a couple of days?  It will give you (us) some more information in which to guide you.  If you elect to do so, and if it is more comfortable for you, send it to me via PM .. and I'll take a look at it.  I may, however, post the suggestions to this thread in an effort to help others as well.

The gym sounds great but am afraid if you are not eating enough calories you may be putting yourself in starvation mode.  Here's an article that explains that.  http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/40803?personal_page_id=1184

Very best wishes .. and hope you stay connected with this community.  It's a great place for information, support and friendship.

Im eliminating them simply because i feel like im eating to much of it...
At one point all i actually wanted to eat was veggies and fruits and wish i could.
As i work in a deli and always have a veggie grinder so always ate the bread.... NO cheeesee of course.

Im a female 5'11 and 19 yrs old... but im a size 14/16 and dont feel as fat as my weight which is 210. Id rather be 185

Since the start of this sem. at college (January) I have been going to the gym 5 times a week for at least an hour. switching between cardio one day and weights the next.

Thank you for your question and welcome to the WL&D community!

May I ask you a few questions?  What is the reason you are eliminating bread and pastas?  What are you eating?  How much do you weigh?

If you will provide your height, weight, age, sex and level of activity .. we can figure your weight and the calories needed to maintain, lose or gain weight.  Where are you in that process?

It is important, whether you are vegetarian or vegan, to eat healthy meals and to be sure to supply yourself with enough nutrients.  You can eat beans and rice, humus, cereal and soy milk to make proteins ..

Please give us some more information .. we'd love to help.
