Simple advice to share

Found this and wanted to share -  simple but true :0

Mindful Eating tips for Healthy Weight Loss

1) Pay attention while you are eating. Be aware of your environment; eat slowly, enjoying each bite – savor the smells and textures of your food. If your mind wanders, just gently remind yourself to return to focusing on your food and how it tastes and feels in your mouth.

2) Avoid distractions while eating. Try not to eat while working, watching TV, reading or using a computer.

3) Try mixing things up to force yourself to focus on the experience of eating – try using chopsticks rather than a fork, or use your utensils with your non-dominant hand

4) Chew your food thoroughly.

5) Stop eating before you are stuffed. Avoid the temptation to “clean your plate”. Yes, there are children starving in Africa, but you packing on the pounds won’t help them!

6) If eating alone, leave the table as soon as you are full. The longer you sit at the table, the more you will eat.

7) Skip the all-you-can eat buffets. Too many choices at once leads to over consumption

8) Eat from small plates, bowls and cups. This will make your portions appear larger.

9) Don’t eat out of large bags or boxes.

10) Buy single serving snacks or create your own small portions in plastic bags or containers.

Great advice! I'm so bad at eating dinner at the coffee table in the lounge while watching tv. I really need to get out of that habit!

All of it so true! To eat mindfully, it also helps to wait with one meal a day until you get pretty hungry. If then you serve yourself a healthy food you usually do NOT crave, it tastes so much better. And the mind remembers it as a yummy choice, for a while at least. Soy beans for example, nice and crunchy with a nutty taste.

You can make wise and healthy choices at a buffet. Just tell yourself that and you will do fine.

Let me know how it goes.

i did #7 last sunday...hopefully not again tomorrow...we all go out as a church and its usually to buffets so we can get seating for a group of people upwards of 15.

I think most people are guilty of that. Except my hubby, he takes FOREVER to eat! He chews until it is ground down to nothing, then swallows. I eat, get up, go clean the kitchen, do dishes, and he is still sitting there eating his dinner. Very irritating!

I am terrible for not chewing-  I gulp too   -  Im not sick often but last time I was it was pretty extra horrible because I had not chewed my previous meal well at all and it came back undigested and it was awful big chunks.(sorry for the TMI).. I resolved to chew better -  but of course, never did,

And the best thing about that...... you get to throw your plate away! No dishes to wash!

I don't chew well, either!  I gulp.

Another good "mindful eating" trick is to use those divided plastic plates--like the ones you use for picnics and such.
Put your main dish in one SMALL divided area, your grain or carb side dish in the other SMALL area, and your vegetable should fill the LARGE area.

Instead of putting your main (usually meat) portion in the large area.  Keeps calories down, and puts the focus where it belongs!
