To All Runners/Joggers/Walkers.....

Hello!  I like to run races (5Ks last year...looking to advance to 10Ks this year).  When I am training, right now on the treadmill due to the cold, I find the first 1 1/2 miles to be the hardest...and things get easier for the most part after that.  I do have asthma and that plays into it a bit with the breathing, but I also get the burning and tightness in the calves during that first 1 1/2 miles.  I usually just set my mind on how far I am going to go before I ever get on the treadmill and absolutely refuse to give up until I have reached that distance.  Does anyone else have a particular portion of their run/jog/walk that they find the most difficult?  Just wondering...although it definitely might just be me.  ; )  I find it interesting though...happens every single time, although once I break that inital difficult distance, I feel awesome for the remainder of the run.

I think that you are right Barb, especially given that I know that I can go the distance and do manage every time that I go out.  I guess mind over matter....if I don't mind the first mile and a half, it don't matter!  ; )  Either that or stick with the "Just Do It!"  Both work I suppose....long as the workout is happening.  I am also with you Barb....once it's finished I always feel a great sense of satisfaction and think....'Now why was that first bit so hard?  I got this!'

I'm not a runner or jogger, but have to wonder if it's a psychological thing.  The reason I say that is because on days when I don't really feel like exercising, I feel horrible while I'm changing my clothes, getting the dvd set up, etc, but as soon as I get started I have to ask myself what the big deal was and I end up enjoying the workout and am glad I did it.  Kind of like cleaning house - it's a horrible job, but once it's started/finished, there's so much satisfaction.

Just a thought.  Merry Christmas.
