Our government tells our schools that French fries are vegetables and they're served in our schools at least a couple of times/week... LOL Is it any wonder that we have a nation of overweight children who grow up to be overweight adults, many of whom end with type II diabetes?
The highest amount of holiday calories come mostly from alcoholic drinks, cakes and desserts.
Avoiding or limiting those will make a HUGE difference!
The advice to drink a lot of water is great, just make sure its spring water and 1 hour away from meals-NOT drinking a lot of any liquid during meals which dilutes gastric acids and promotes indigestion.
Watch those carbs as well, other than from vegetables.
And french fries should not be considered a vegetable, lol!

From my on experience I can say that I'm not the kind of person who eats a lot in Christmas, specially because I don't like Christmas food , but I reccomend that starting now you should go out for a walk every morning if possible, drink 8 cups of water every day, and if you feel anxious and need a snack you can either eat a fruit or drink water ( 80% of the times you feel anxious for a snack you brain confuses your thirst into hunger,if you drink a large cup of water the need for food will stop and you will automatically feel full). Another tip would be to change all the liquids that you drink with your meals for water, and just drink as much water as possible. This diet has worked for me, so I think you should try it.
If you eat a healthy diet all year, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the holiday season derailing you so much... So far, I've pretty much eaten what I wanted, and haven't gained any extra pounds... but then I exercise, as well.
Obviously you are going to gain weight over the holidays?
You can do better than that!
How about if you were to make a deal with yourself?
For every "forbidden" , "illegal" or unnecessary food you consume, there's a cost.
The cost is...exercise.
A piece of cake let's say is 350 calories, you spend about 75 calories for digesting and processing the sugar, fat and its few other components . The remaining 275 calories go
to fat storage if the cake was eaten after dinner.
So you allot 275 calories to be used in some form of activity, like a brisk walk for an hour or a bit less, depending on your current weight and some other factors.
You get the idea, right?
Taking your time to chew well and eating a complete meal
over a much longer time, will satisfy your sense of hunger easier w/o having to eat more.
Exercising earlier in the day will help you burn more calories and the same for eating.
Avoid late snacking but if you must, make wise choices, like a little fruit or a plain rice cake with just a little peanut butter. You're vegan, correct?
If you consume alcoholic beverages, perhaps your wisest choice would be to take light beer, example Beck's Premium Light with only 64 calories and good tasting lol!
if this is something you would enjoy.
If not, a 1-oz vodka bloody mary should be under 100 cal
and 1-oz vodka with club soda only 64 calories, but you would have to nurse your drink all evening!
Best wishes!
