Well, I can give you one piece of advice that should be real easy to do.........get your son on a good healthy diet, so he will grow up eating things that are good for him, with few snacks -- then it won't  matter if you snack on his food or not.......

I'd also say that the reason you are snacking on HIS food is that you aren't satisfied with your own, which means that you need to come up with things to eat that will satisfy you, not just fill you up.  You need a good mix of all the different food groups, including protein in the form of lean meats, beans, nuts, etc; carbs - fruits/veggies, again add those beans in here, along with whole grains, brown rice, etc;  low/no fat dairy - including milk, yogurt, cheese; and even fat such as that found in olive oil, avocados, almonds.

Also, but not sitting down to a meal, I don't think you are giving yourself the chance to be "emotionally" satisfied with what you are eating.  You need to start out with a good breakfast and build from there.  I don't know how old your son is, but whenever you feed him, sit down at the table with him and eat a meal yourself.  Then when you give him a snack, again, sit down and eat YOUR snack with him.  If you make your (and his) snacks healthy - such as an apple with a tsp of peanut butter; or an apple with a slice of cheese - you won't need to worry about it.  If you do this with each meal/snack, it will eventually become a habit for both of you and you will be making changes in your life style that you can stick with, you will also be teaching your son healthy things to eat as well, so he may not have the same problem as an adult that you have.

We all know you aren't going to stick with salads and cereal for very long because you won't be satisfied.  You need to come up with combinations that you will enjoy, but first you need to get into the habit of eating at regular times and sitting down and concentrating on what you are eating rather than just mindlessly stuffing food in your mouth.  I also believe that you should eat every time you are hungry, but ONLY when you are hungry.  If you are snacking off your son's plate, there may be other issues involved - whether it's boredom, loneliness or whatever.  That's where the food diary can be helpful also because for each meal/snack you enter, you can make a note about how you felt before, during and after you ate it.  That will help you pinpoint why you are eating the way you are.

I, and other members can give you all kinds of pointers and ideas, but ultimately, the work lies on your shoulders and the outcome will depend on how badly you want to succeed.  So rather than say "I have no self control" -- try just getting through each incident and each time you go to put something in your mouth -- stop and think about it first; are you really hungry or are you just mindlessly stuffing food in your mouth because it's there?

Thanks so much for the support. My hubby is really against me taking any pills or shots. It sounds like  the easy way out since I love to eat. I am also on the lazy side. I have been excercizing at least 3-4 days a week for about a half an hour. But my real concern is getting my eating under control. i have a 3 year old so everyhting he eats i seem to think i need to eat too. im a big snacker a bite here a bite there insteed of sitting and eating a meal. i got ride of all the snacks and ive been eating salad and cereal just to get started. but i still seem to be snacking on just bite of my sons food an well. as you can tell i have no self control. im getting better though but i would appriciate aby advice cause i do want to chang my life style. thanks so much

Yes, I have heard of it -- I can't tell you for sure whether or not it's safe, but I will say that YES, you are most likely to regain any weight you lose as soon as you stop, since that is not a diet that you will maintain for the rest of your life.

You would do much better to implement small changes and lose the weight slowly and safely in order to be able to maintain the loss.  If you make actual "life style" changes, that you can live with from now on, you will be much less likely to regain.

You are most welcome to stay here with us and work on a plan implementing healthy eating and moderate exercise.

If you'd like to give us more information about yourself - such as what/how much you eat, exercise you get, etc - we will certainly try to help you come up with a plan and would enjoy having you join us for the journey.  We have a lot of people with extensive knowledge regarding weight loss and since we all need support and a little "kick" once in a while, this is a great place to be.  We also try to have fun with it.
