You might not lose immediately when you start a "diet", but you shouldn't gain, either, unless you're really going at the exercise and gaining muscle. It's always a good idea to take your measurements, too, because sometimes we lose fat and gain muscle, which is denser and takes up less space than fat, so your scale might not show progress, but your measurements will.
