weight gain and hypoglycemia

I am 33 with 2 young children and over this winter have gained 10 lbs! I am desperate to lose about 24 but having such trouble with my blood sugars. I eat every 2 hours at least or I get really low. Does anyone have any advice on how to keep sugars stable and lose weight? I never had this problem until a year or so ago. I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 130#. I don't think that is unreasonable, just not sure how to get there. My diet is constant snacks like yogurt, almonds, cottage cheese, veggies and very little fruit because that spikes my sugar and then it drops, chicken, lean beef and I love beans on salads and things. I want to see results so badly!

Thank you for your response, it is very helpful to know I may be eating the right foods. I have started exercising more and my clothes fit a little better! I am concerned about my sugar being spiked as well so I really avoid simple sugars except occasional fruit. I don't want to end up biabetic. Thanks again!

Your goal of 130 lbs may be too little for your height.  It depends on your frame size; if you're small framed (small bones), 130 lbs would be right at the bottom range.  If you're medium or large framed, that would not be enough weight for you to be healthy.

Have you calculated your actual daily calorie needs?

Check out the low glycemic diet.  The more fiber and protein you eat, the longer your blood sugar will stay stable.  If you're snacking on veggies, make sure you eat some protein with them, such as an apple with peanut butter, or celery with low fat cheese.

It sounds like you're eating the right kind of foods; to keep blood sugar in check.  What about portion sizes?  That's very important when trying to lose weight.

Every time you eat something that spikes your blood sugar, it also spikes insulin levels and sometimes, we eventually become resistance to insulin, so our body doesn't use it properly.   You might want to check into that.

Additionally, exercise is important when it comes to losing weight.  Walking for 30 minutes/day is a good way to lose weight, as is yoga, pilates, etc.
