I think I am having a miscarriage

I am 4 weeks pregnant and bleeding bright red have had some intense cramping but has stopped and when I got up this morning it was a warm gush like you feel when you first start your period. Looking for advice, can I take a pregnancy test to see if that actually happened?

I'd pick up some Dollar Store tests (they are cheap and reliable) and keep testing every couple of mornings, to see what happens to your positive result.  No, you don't need to go to the ER; if you did lose the embryo, it is cleared out and will not cause infection, in other words it went the natural way.  And if you did not lose the embryo, it is probably still in there ticking, so it is not urgent.  (Endometrial material can come out in sort of funny shapes that don't always resemble a clot.)  All you will get in the ER is the flu or something else you really don't want to get.  Your doctor appointment will be fine for knowing what happened.  Good luck.

I did have a positive test at home and at a clinic on Monday. I lightened bleeding a little but still have cramps. I think I passed the sac though. It was really light pink on the outside and red in the inside of the tissue looked like a bubble and some tissue strands dangled off of the edge of the bubble. Wasn't a clot at all. I couldn't get into my doctor till next week. Should I go to the er is it that risky to wait?

Do you know for sure that before this you were pregnant?  In other words, you took a pregnancy test before the bleeding and it was positive?  If so, yes, you could be having a miscarriage, but you could also simply be having some bleeding.  Call your doc.

I had a miscarrage at 5wks last yr. started with intense pain in my stomach then came nausea then a tsp. of bright red blood. i went to the e.r. they tested my levels and said they were good and the sonogram showed the baby was the right size for 5 wks. they scheduled me for follow up blood work to see if the pregnancy levels were going up as it should be, but they were dropping, meaning it was a miscarrage and the dr. said i HAD to have a DNC to protect myself from health issues. So go to the dr. or e.r. Also yes you will still test positive on an at home test...i did but the line was light 5 days after the miscarrage.

Get to the doctor's.  You need to get some attention.  It may very well have been a miscarriage, but hormones are going to take a little longer to clear out.  Being that you're only four weeks, there would still be hormones for the pregnancy test to pick up.
