Extremely frequent and heavy periods...

My periods have most always been regular my whole life.  I am 21, have had my cycle for about 10 years now.  From 2003 - 2005 I was on the DepoProvera birth control shot, which completely stopped my periods.  While on the shot I gained a lot of weight (50 lbs. in 18 months) so I discontinued use.  Since then I have had no more weight gain, but no weight loss.  I have hairs that grow on the underside of my chin and have to tweeze them away which only causes irritation.  I am guessing my hormones are screwed up...but the real clencher is this:
From March 12 - April 12 I have 3 periods.  The first was normal.  Second one came a few days after the first left and the third period was so heavy I went through 3 18 pack boxes of Super Plus Kotex tampons.  There were also clots.  I was having to change the tampons every hour.  Now, it is May 10 and I started this next months period again.  It is extremely heavy, just like the third period last month and I have even larger clots.  I am PRAYING that what is wrong is purely hormonal considering the other changes in my body, but I have heard that it may be cervical cancer with such bleeding.  I have absolutely no medical insurance but was thinking about heading to the ER.  Any ideas?  I live in Florida and most of the Doctors here look at you, give you minimal treatment and/or advice and send you on your way after waiting for 4 hours.  Thanks :o)

I found a womens clinic (free clinic) in my town that lets you make payments based on how much you make or they help you with medicade if you qualify. I did.. but now I have to renew it tomorrow because it expired. Anyway, they took my blood and told me to go to the ER asap now she said because I was on the verge of a heart attack.
Even now I have heart palpitations and it speeds up and beats hard for no reason and I am just sitting still. That is good you are not anemic because I take Iron everyday and they told me that is just a temperary fix. My hormones must be out of wack also because I have 2 hairs that I have to pluck on my chin and I have noticed the light colored face hair on my upper lip has gotten thicker and more noticable especially in pictures. :-(

Thanks for the advice.  It's 330am and I just got back from the hospital.  It lighted up over the last 24 hours but I still decided to go to the ER.  They did 3 blood tests to see if I was pregnant, anemic or had lukemia...all came back negative.  The Doctor said that just by what I told him (Depo, hair under the chin since being off the depo and the bleeding) that he knows my hormones are out of wack...so he gave me an Rx for 1 month of birth control (Ortho Tri Cyclen) and reffered me to a Gyno.  Since it is the ER, they do not do bloodwork to check hormones there.  I am hoping that this 1 month supply will show a difference in not only the bleeding but the unwanted hair especially, that is almost more annoying.  The Depo shot is straight Progesterone, so I am guessing I still have too much of that in my system, so the Estrogen from the birth control should even things out.  Errr just frusterated with the health care system in America...I am soooo jealous of people with Insurance!!!!  A trip to the gyno is going to be outragggggggeous :o(

I think that you should get checked out by the doctor, because it seems unusual to have 3 periods in one month. If you don't want to go to the ER you can call up your local hospital to see if they have an urgent care clinic or even a free clinic that is associated with them. Alot of hospitals do this, you can get the care that you need at a cheaper cost. If you do go to the ER and they treat your problem like it is not serious talk to the administrator of the hospital, because sending patients away is illegal!  Good luck!
