HELP ASAP.

My friend is 13 years old, has never started her period, or had sex, and yesterday she started getting a brown discharge. She heard it was old blood, but she's never started her period yet!! Is this just a sign that she's going to start her period? If so, how long will the discharge occur before she starts her period?

Not a doctor, but I am 34 and sometimes still get brown discharge for the first day or so before my period hits. She may only get the brown discharge for a few days (this may be her period) or have blood within a day or two. The brown is not necessarily "old blood" but just what her body is shedding internally at this point, not the layers of her uterus it has built up during her menstrual cycle. Even though you are young you should look up what your "period" actually is (the shedding of your uterus lining that it has built up during the month to prepare for pregnancy) to better understand what is going on with your body! :)
