High Prolactin...

Hello there, just reaching out to see if anyone else has had any issue or insight on high Prolactin levels?

I was missing my period for several months and a recent blood test at the Dr showed elevated Prolactin. I have never been PG and am not breastfeeding any babies, so this is unusual. I realize that I need to seek medical advice from a Dr to diagnose the underlying cause. I am waiting for a referral to an endocrinologist to do just that.

My question is this... Has anyone else suffered from high Prolactin and if so, did your estrogen levels return to normal with treatment? Did you begin to ovulate again? Anything I should be aware of through the diagnostic process?

My biggest fear is that I will never have children. Something, the only thing, that I have always known I wanted in life. If anyone has undergone treatment for elevated prolactin and then later conceived, I would love to hear your story as well!

I should say I went on to have two kids after that period of time.  So, having children in the future should not be something you worry about now.  good luck

I had prolactemia from a high level of natural estrogen production.  Not pregnant but discharge from breasts.  I also had a slow thyroid at the time.

One thing they normally do is look for the cause of the prolactemia.  I had an MRI to make sure I didn't have a tiny tumor (which is usually benign/non cancerous) in my pituitary gland.  I did not.  then blood panels were run where the high production of estrogen was discovered.  I also had hypothyroidism, as I stated.

The only changes I made was I exercised more and began taking an SSRI for mild depression/dysthymia which is intertwined.  I took that medication for about 8 months.  My symptoms got better.  I have not taken any ssri's since, have not had prolactemia, my thyroid function is normal and I have given birth to two children and have a regular cycle.

I tell you this because these things do go back to normal.  You'll want to do the test to find out why you have prolactemia though to see what your next step is.  good luck
